thoughts from the trip so far (recorded in my notebook):
29-06-2002 ### plane flight. lots of salted peanuts. britney spears on several movie channels. Ugh. Economy seats on plane squished: 2-5-2. I'm right in the middle, 37F. slightly headachy, hair too heavy. stupid hair. v. nice air hostesses and 'flight attendants' who are male air hostesses. screens in back of seats overrated. ...Crossroads is stupid. ### menu very pretty. 'light meal' has 3 yummy choices. however. I don't know if they are gluten free. bugger. ### want to use the name Ash. however, think Rae has exclusive rights to said name for her Ash and Catherine story. so... I'll use Ash, and Rae can beat me later. ^_^ ### well, turns out Malaysian Airlines /can/ do gluten free after all. maybe. (we'll see in a few hours). I had fish on noodles, and salad, 2 polystyrene - I mean rice - cakes, and dessert was a few slices of fruit. And chocolate covered icecream. mmm, icecream. anyway. ### repeat after me: I am not feeling sick. I am not feeling sick. I am not... crap. ### bah. feeling mildly better. don't /think/ it was something i ate... ### just to reiterate, i do /not/ like britney spears. at /all/. ### 2 hours to go... bored... yr 10s are harrassing flight attendant Jason Long. Poor guy. ...britney spears still sucks. must not sleep until next flight, then I'll be on proper sleep cycles. sleeeepy... ### 30-06-2002 ### As I look out of the plane window I see darkness, with the cloudmasses like giant continents far below. there is a white haze above that, and then utter blackness. [incidently, there is a place on the map called Guntur... Rae?] speckled with stars, although I can only see a few from my position. ### Just flew over Beirut - 3:39 hours left. got some sleep - a few hours. the time in frankfurt is 2am though, so maybe more sleep is needed. dinner this time not so good. rice and something in gravy with what looked like spinach was the hot meal, and the sillt waiters gave me a complimentary bread roll. I /was/ going to tell them why I couldn't have bread rolls, so they wouldn't annoy Coeliacs in future, but decided not to. ### right now we're flying past a thunderstorm. I say past, because we're above the cloud level. the clouds around the storm are all smooth and swirly, and the storm clouds are jagged and bunchy and stick out higher then the rest. every 10 seconds or so the storm clouds will flash internally - lightning inside, and for the poor suckers down below. It's the coolest thing I've seen for a while. ### breakfast okay - potatoes, mushrooms and beans. Annie had same meal, so swapped with her for more potatoes by sacrificing my mushrooms. flight attendant gave me croissant, I told him no, gluten free meant no bread of any kind. stupid bread. note to self: burn Annie's CDs. esp. the placebo and moby ones. mmm, placebo goodness... ### sun rose red this morning. and there#s another plane a kilometer or so to our right and one just above and to our right!!! ...we're being tracked. /this/ will go into the gilder story. ### rang home - family out. not impressed. got answering machine. >.< left message to the effect of 'you suck for not being home' but made sure to add 'we're okay and the food was fine' to placate mother. in hindsight, should have rung UCC. note to self: check UCC number. cars go too fast on Autobahn - no speed limit. also, driving on wrong side of road. lap trays too small on this bus. must lean on leg. pretty flowers from Malaysian Airlines as we got off - me and Annie and 2 other girls got them. because we're so pretty. About 1 hour to Cologne. ### so that's all I have recorded in my notebook - other than the planning for my gilder story, which I've left out, due to it's technical and probably boring nature. I am currently in Cologne, in a nice large netcafe, being charged 1 euro/half hour for the internet. I don' t think that's too bad. anyway. Sab, thanks for the heads-up about your party. Yes, I'll be there from about 3:30. but I'll be leaving towards the end of/ immediately after the second movie, because, as I said, I have to be elsewhere. What would you like as a present? Clover volume 2? ^_^D was right. This /was/ the funniest thing I've read all week. Chris... hurry up and update. I love having a big sister with a digital camera. Tommo, sorry for not linking you before. *points to sidebar* All better now, right? ^_^ Concert yesterday went well. My little sister Ali was mildly ill, but still sang very well. Our duet solo was good - I went sharp in the warmup, but fixed it up for the performance by managing to stay on pitch. Barbershop was not so flash - this being because a) new BBshop sucks, old BBshop was so much better b) I learnt the notes properly an hour and a half before we performed, and c) ditto for the moves. The crap moves. I repeat, old BBshop was much better. Old BBshop also wore red braces. But no. God forbid we wear slightly old red braces! Instead, we were forced into these waistcoats - vertical green and black stripes. Admittedly, yes, they didn't look too bad, but.... that's not really what BBshop is all about. It's about having fun, not being identical carbon copies. I learnt last night that not only did we have to have the same pants and shirts, but now we have to customise our shoes as well. ...MLC is crazy. *sigh* Anyway, after the Chorale finished singing, our Principal came on stage, and waited for the applause to die down (which took a long time... :P) before starting to speak and getting us to move off the stage. ...we were going to sing an encore!!! And she ruined it!! >.< stupid Ethel. In other news, I went shopping with my mum on saturday, and I got Docs. Shiny new black "10-up" Doc Martens. I am very pleased, for they are very pretty, and oh so shiny. ...but not as shiny as you. For that is impossible. ^_^ Countdown... 5 days to go... Finished my exams!!! Physics was okay. The first question was the same as one of the test questions, so I could do that and /know/ that I'd got it right. As to the other 5 questions... eheh ^_^;; I /think/ that I've done a pretty good job on 2 more, and the other 3... I was reaching. So I'm hoping for a pass. The funny thing is, I was rolling my d10 percent dice the other night to see what exam marks I was going to get in my exam. The dice said that I was going to get 69% in E101, the one I hate, 61% in maths, 97% in EE, my electronic engineering unit, and 29% in Physics. Obviously the 97% was a complete lie, but I ignored that because hey, it's 97%, right? I didn't much like the physics mark. So I asked the dice "What if I study?" The dice then rolled 16%. Question 1, the only one that I /know/ I've gotten right, was worth 16 out of 100 marks... I'm going to hate it if I get 16% on this exam.Lilack-chan, yes, I did indeed get the Fruits Basket CDs, and I'll watch them now that I've finished my exams. I'll get them back to you... well, considering that I'm going to Vienna next saturday, do you mind getting them back in a month, when Uni starts back up? Because I can get them to you then, at the first UWAnime screening. Otherwise... I /might/ be able to watch them all next week... maybe possibly. But it'd be doubtful. Nothing else to say today. Sorry I haven't updated lately. Real life kinda got in the way. I'm currently on exams, with 3 down and 1 to go. I'm fairly confident of passing 2 out of the 3 that I've done - the one that I'm in danger with is my Civ/Mech Engineering Unit. *shrugs* I don't care, though - if I have to take it again, I have to take it again. Updated my sidebar: Rae and Chris have got themselves accounts on both sides of the fence, by which I mean they've got both a blog and a livejournal. Speaking of which: Chris - I've got another reason why blogs are better than livejournals: they're shorter to type. "www.blogger.com" to update and "kadeton.blogspot.com" to view is shorter than "www.livejournal.com" to update and "www.livejournal.com/users/kadeton" to view. Just thought I'd point it out. Leareth - I blame you not only for my CLAMP obsession, but for my anime obsession and my StarWars obsession. I was never as interested in SW as I was after you gave me the entire series of books one at a time (I now have all of them on my shelves, or at least a vast majority of them), and you introduced me to anime and the stores where I get my manga and anime.
